The Caribbean Cultural Institute at PAMM

A contemporary facility, Perez Art Museum Miami (PAMM) features artworks from Miami-based and self-taught Latin American, Latinx, and African/African diaspora artists. PAMM also has a Caribbean Cultural Institute (CCI) that highlights and promotes Caribbean art and its global communities.

Supported by the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, CCI goes beyond exhibition space. It is a dynamic platform for research, cultural exchange, and community engagement. Through its exhibitions, grants, and public programs, the CCI enriches PAMM's art collection and fosters vital connections between local and global art communities, deepening understanding of Caribbean artistic expression.

The institute showcases various artistic expressions, from painting and sculpture to mixed-media art. Notable artists like Madeleine Hunt-Ehrlich, Hew Locke, Enrique Martinez Celaya, and Teresita Fernández contribute to art collections and exhibitions that explore complex themes of identity, cultural heritage, and the experiences of Caribbean and Latin American life.

CCI's fellowship program supports Caribbean artists, scholars, and cultural practitioners via production-based art fellowships, research grants, and access to PAMM's resources to advance cultural development in the region and the diaspora. The program aims to achieve cultural development by encouraging new perspectives that push the boundaries of traditional conceptions of Caribbean culture, reflections on the current state of Caribbean art, and innovative studies on Caribbean culture.

The 2024 CCI Artist Fellowship supports mid-career Caribbean artists across disciplines with studio work, mentorship, and institutional collaborations. The Researcher Fellowship targets Caribbean researchers, scholars, and curators working on projects that expand the understanding of PAMM's art collection.
